Find Something Familiar. Before you branch out to try something new, make a list of the familiar things that you like to do. If you are an avid yogi, make sure that makes the list. If being on the water is when you are feeling at your best, acknowledge this enjoyment by continuing to ride the waves. When you want to remain active, it is imperative that you do activities that you enjoy. Utilize the activities you already find fun to build a foundation that will let you branch out and discover new opportunities.

Be Adventurous. There is a whole world of activities out there. Think about all of those times you caught yourself saying, "I wish I knew how to..." Each of those wishful moments offers you an opportunity to try something new that you'll probably enjoy. Remember, no matter how much you love some of your hobbies now, they were new once, too. Step out of your comfort zone, and give new things a try. Look for courses that can help you get started. For example, if you've always wanted to play golf, instructors are more than happy to teach you how to take to the tee. If you're still not sure, recruit a friend to adventure around town with you.

Find Pleasure in the Little Things. Warming your face during a brisk walk down the beach is just one example of finding pleasure in the little things. Florida living offers retirees ample ways to enjoy the simple parts of life. Fun with friends and family can make a world of difference. Explore area restaurants, take walks around different neighborhoods. Keep an open mind and ask your neighbors, servers, instructors, and friends what they do for fun.

At The Islands on the Manatee River, our residents will be able to embrace Florida living throughout the year. There is always something to get involved in around here.
