The long awaited Fort Hamer Bridge project has officially begun! On Thursday, March 19, construction began after a ground-breaking ceremony at Fort Hamer Park. Along with the 2,318 foot-long bridge will come mainland improvements such as turn lanes and signalized intersections.
The Fort Hamer Bridge will provide residents of Parrish and The Islands an alternate -and quicker- route to interstate 75, providing a direct route to Lakewood Ranch. This long-anticipated project has been in the works for years and is expected to be completed in a 2 year time frame.
